News of the silicone chip shortage and its effect on automobile production is anything but new but the issues that face production of the current sixth-generation Camaro go much further than microchips and are both short- and long-term in nature. It first went on sale on September 29 1966 for the 1967 model year and was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird produced by Chevys sister division Pontiac also.

The initial production run of the Chevrolet Camaro began with the 1967 model year and ended in 2002. Thankfully that end was only temporary since the Camaro returned in 2010 and is still in production to this day. Missing production of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro caused by global microchip shortage has resulted to a drop in customer deliveries.

The goal is to later make up as much lost production as possible at this plant. Full production of the Chevy Camaro Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 will now come back online at Lansing Grand River on Monday October 4 th.
It doesnt appear that this reopening has gone well for GM however. 2022 is the seventh model year of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. It was closed on March 15.
